How do you succeed as an immigrant trying to establish your career in Canada? What are the strategies for success?
The Calgary Region Immigrant Employment Council (CRIEC) and the School of Global Access at Bow Valley College undertook a joint applied research project, funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), to explore these questions with successful immigrants in Canada. The goal of this research project was to identify common trends, practices, and tactics among successful immigrants and determine effective strategies for establishing oneself in Canada.
We interviewed several immigrants who have successfully established themselves and are flourishing in Canada to find out what their strategies were. Each person we interviewed had a unique story and shared life lessons for success. From these interviews, we created a series of audio conversations in which listeners can connect with the stories and strategies of our interviewees. The conversations reflect a diversity of experiences and share tips for success. Each conversation is accompanied by a transcript. A document which summarizes the top ten strategies and practices in these interviews is also available.
The conversations, transcripts, and a summary document can be accessed from the Resource Finder of the School of Global Access website.
