Departing from Connexion Carrière, arriving at Air Canada’s head office

When Khoulé Keita first arrived in Calgary in 2017, Connexion Carrière was like her second home. “I didn’t know anybody [in Calgary], so going to Connexion Carrière was a way to connect with people,” says Khoulé.

Originally from Senegal, Khoulé studied computer science at university in France and then moved to Montreal before coming to Calgary.

Khoulé came to Connexion Carrière for help to find an English job. Before taking English language courses, her knowledge of the language was limited. At Connexion Carrière, she and her coach discussed job search strategies like building a résumé in English, preparing for interviews in English, and adapting to the Calgary job market. Khoulé’s goal was to find a job in IT. Due to Calgary’s economic climate at the time, her coach, Caroline Brazeau, advised her to focus on finding a job first, then to search for one in her field.

In September of 2017, Khoulé landed a job at Air Canada as a customer service and sales agent, catering to passengers throughout the pre-boarding experience. Connexion Carrière and Air Canada have a partnership that helped lead Khoulé to her job. Afterward, following Caroline’s advice, Khoulé looked for a position in IT, finding that the best place to look was inwards. “When I started working [at Air Canada], I realized that I really like the culture of the company. We have a good team work ethic. I said to myself, why can’t I apply in IT?”

When Khoulé saw a job opening in that department, she applied – and got the job. Since late July, she’s been working as an implementation analyst at Air Canada’s head office in Montreal. “I want to thank the coach and everybody working [at Connexion Carrière] for their time, for the work we did together, and for letting me just pop by and chat.”
