The following blog post was written by Laurel Madro, Program Coordinator of the Centre's Corporate Readiness Training Program.
Esmail Bharwani, a well-known and highly respected Calgarian, was at Bow Valley College on February 10, 2016. Bharwani, along with his wife Safana, awarded two Corporate Readiness Training Program (CRTP) learners with the Esmail Safana Farzana Fayaz Bharwani Award.
Through the generosity of the Esmail Safana Farzana Fayaz Bharwani Foundation many newcomers to Calgary have received the support they need to continue their education and pursue their career goals. Since 2014, Esmail Bharwani has very kindly presented six awards every year to the CRTP learners. The Foundation has also presented additional awards to other BVC programs since 2012.
Esmail Bharwani exemplifies the value of learning for life. He shared about his life story with the CRTP learners at the ceremony. He talked about the path he followed from first arriving in Canada as an immigrant to earning degrees in law, a Master of Science (in Entrepreneurship), completing an MBA and course work in a Doctorate in Education (pending dissertation), and becoming a chartered professional accountant (CPA). His career has included writing articles for major newspapers and magazines across Canada (over 750), presenting research papers at conferences, hosting a radio show and a regular television program, lecturing at the university, and presenting seminars at community events.
His words for the students were inspiring and motivational.
The award recipients, Taya El Sarag (Architect) and Samah Elzahaby (BA in English Literature and Linguistics), have come to Canada with their families looking to build a new life for themselves and their children. Both recipients are motivated to study, establish their careers in Canada, and provide opportunities for their children to lead happy and successful lives.
