English for Academic Purposes (EAP) attracts English language learners who aim to pursue further post-secondary studies but are in need of learning, expanding, and refining their academic English skills.
Examples of academic English skills include study and organization skills, note-taking, exam strategies, goal setting, researching, presenting, online learning, critical thinking, academic honesty, and essay writing.
In order to achieve a level of English proficiency high enough for entry into post-secondary institutions, many learners need dedicated time, practice, and feedback from EAP instructors.
The EAP program is comprised of three levels, each level spanning 15 weeks of training. Learners are placed into the appropriate level based on their results on an entry assessment. Learners must have a minimum of CLB 6 in all language strands to apply to the program.
Upon successful completion of the EAP program, learners will have acquired the necessary language proficiency required for post-secondary institutions and will be equipped with the academic strategies needed to help them succeed in the post-secondary environment.
