Learn about Indigenous histories and contemporary realities in Canada
This includes relationships to the land, identities, and cultural knowledge. Explore cultural differences and basic Indigenous ways of knowing and being while examining your own worldview with a goal to promote understanding and foster inclusivity.
This is the fourth course in the Intercultural Competencies for Leaders Certificate (non-credit).
The course is 100% online and has a peer-learning focus. Course completion is based on active participation on discussion board forums, and the submission of a final assignment which will consolidate participants’ personal experience during this course. The time commitment is typically twelve hours.

This course is part of the Intercultural Competencies for Leaders Certificate. The program is essential for anyone working in a diverse workplace. It helps develop a global perspective and mindset and offers useful tools to build intercultural sensitivity and enhance intercultural communication skills.
You need to complete four courses to earn the certificate. Course 1 (IIAD9101) and Course 2 (IIAD9102) are building-block courses for this certificate. We recommend learners take these two courses first.

Strategies and skills of flourishing Canadians, born abroad
Pathways to Belonging and Influence: Strategies and skills of the flourishing Canadians, born abroad is a joint applied research project between Calgary Region Immigrant Employment Council (CRIEC) and Bow Valley College. The goal of this research project was to identify common trends, practices and tactics among successful immigrants and determine effective strategies for establishing oneself in Canada. This project is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The first part of this project includes a series of audio conversations with immigrants who have successfully established themselves and are flourishing in Canada. The conversations reflect a diversity of experiences. Each person has unique life lessons to share with you. Listen to these conversations or read the transcripts to learn strategies and tips for establishing yourself and experiencing success in Canada. The second part of this project resulted in a report which summarizes common strategies and practices among successful immigrants.
