Project Description

This project developed a blended online, boot camp, and mentoring learning model to support newcomer women (at CLB levels 6 and 7) as emerging entrepreneurs. Working with the Chiu School of Business, and external partners Calgary Economic Development, and Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association the project researched, designed, created, and piloted a robust set of resources with an aim to increase access to labour market integration services.

As part of this project, a course was developed to support newcomer women interested in pursuing entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship: An Introduction for Newcomers is a course that teaches important language, intercultural, and business skills to help newcomer women successfully bridge to other entrepreneurial programs and services depending on their needs.

This project supported women interested in entrepreneurship as a career opportunity by identifying language skills and intercultural competencies to help the participants to access startup services and supports. It also piloted an experiential learning model to bridge newcomer women to becoming successful entrepreneurs.
