Financial ESL Literacy Toolkit

The Financial ESL Literacy Toolkit supports ESL literacy practitioners in the delivery of financial literacy and numeracy instruction.

The toolkit contains contains:

• Guiding principles for financial literacy and numeracy instruction in the ESL Literacy classroom
• Information on assessing learner understanding and placement assessment tools
• Themed units that include a rationale, driving questions, suggested outcomes and vocabulary, complementary numeracy outcomes, sample lesson plans, and resources 

The sample lessons were developed for English language learners with interrupted formal education, but they can be adapted for use with a variety of demographics.  They have a strong vocabulary focus and include lessons to introduce financial literacy topics, field trip lessons and lessons for learners who have previously covered some financial literacy outcomes.

This project involves having students from ESL literacy classes participate in a sale to practice and apply their numeracy skills in an authentic and relevant setting.
